Re-order the evidence, do not invent it
Changing field rarely means you lack relevant experience — it usually means the relevant experience is not the most recent, so a chronological CV buries it. The work is deciding what rises to the top and what becomes a single line.
Where a skills-led format helps
Grouping evidence by capability rather than employer brings the relevant work forward regardless of when it happened. The trade-off is real: some readers treat the format with suspicion precisely because it de-emphasises chronology, so a clear dated employment list still has to appear further down.
- Capability groups built from your actual history
- A dated employment list kept visible for credibility
- Transferable evidence stated in the target field’s vocabulary
- A plain line explaining the change, so nobody has to guess
- An application channel plan, since referrals matter more on a pivot
Being realistic
A career change usually takes longer than a like-for-like move and often involves a step in seniority or pay. We will not tell you otherwise. What we can do is make sure the document is not adding friction on top of that.
No promises about outcomes
We do not claim that any of this will get you hired. Hiring depends on the market, the role, the other applicants and timing — none of which we can see. What we can do is make sure your documents are not the reason you were passed over.
